Now that’s what I call hummus…

Ellen and I ate at Nook Café for lunch today. It is a chic corner coffee house serving great bistro food — 1500 Hyde Street at Jackson Street in San Francisco. We started with the hummus plate, served with a kalamata olive tapenade, fresh sliced cucumbers, sliced roma tomatoes, and warm pita. I had the sliced turkey breast sandwich with baked brie and cranberry sauce on a toasted baguette. Ellen ordered the tuna salad sandwich with roma tomatoes, capers, red onions and fontina cheese on Ciabatta. I washed mine down with a Red Tail Ale and Ellen sipped a refreshing lemonade.

The hummus plate was absolutely delicious. The hummus was very nice and creamy, not too grainy, and the fresh cracked pepper was a great touch. It paired well with the olive tapenade, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The pita was nicely soft on the inside and seemed quite fresh. I was sad to see the end of this dish.

My sandwich was warm inside and out and the cranberry sauce was very subtle, just complimenting the brie and turkey to form a nice medley of flavors. The brie was a bit oily, but that’s what you would expect from melted brie on a sandwich. The baguette was nicely toasted, without being so hard crusted that its hard to eat. All in all, a fantastic sandwich.
