Elegant Junk Food
June 11th, 2006
Someone I know asked me why I never make junkfood, why I never make anything deep fried. He said I should make “elegant junk food”. So, I came up with some dessert ravioli. Drop a spoonful of Nutella on a wonton wrapper, brush the edges with egg wash, fold diagonally, and press to seal. Deep fry them in 350°F oil for about 45 seconds each side, or until golden brown. Drain and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm. If you are making a large batch, keep them warm in a 200°F oven while the other ones are frying.
These would refrigderate well, so you can make them the day before. Just be sure to warm them up in a 350°F oven before serving.

You can make your own chocolate spread without hazelnuts with the following recipe derived from one I found on the Food Network website:
7 oz Dark Chocolate
1/2 cup Cream
Combine ingredients in a double boiler. When the chocolate reaches its melting point, remove from heat and stir until smooth. Let cool until easy to spread.
You could add another type of nut if you don’t like hazelnuts; I recommend almonds. You would stir in 1/4 cup of ground nuts of your choice.
